Coordination and the brain

Coordination exercises, involving complex and dynamic sequences of movements, activate the brain in a unique way. According to the article ’Effects of Coordination Exercises on Brain Activation: A Functional MRI Study’ (Mochizuki & Kirino, International Journal of Sport and Health Science 2008: 98-104), coordination exercises, when compared to less complex sports activities, influence motor control to a much greater degree. Importantly, they impact cognitive control more, especially judgment, decision-making as well as processing speed.

Fitness sessions at our academy regularly incorporate coordination drills and exercises. We want our players to improve their agility together with their brain power.

Have a look at the coordination sequences below with our tennis director Sergi working with our full-time player Ella.
